Sweet Little Sunflowers...

...for our "girls night" dinner at Laura's house tomorrow night. I had so much fun putting together this little flower arrangement with some inexpensive sunflowers I picked up at the grocery store and a couple of peacock feather flourishes.

Featured: Nicole's Dallas Digs - Dining Room

Nicole's dining room flows right off of the living room to give her cozy house a more open feel. To bridge the gap in between the two spaces, she placed a red gloss laquer cabinet that also functions as an entertaining station.

She even fashioned light fixtures to illuminate her collections that she displays in the cabinet.

Cocktails anyone?! All of her swanky supplies are within easy reach.

Her soft wood table is flanked with industrial metal chairs.

While the overhead light fixture mirrors the warm wood of the table below.

Nicole loves to entertain...whether it's her weekly book club or a relaxed evening of wine and cheese with close friends. And her dining room space is the perfect place to host.

Featured: Nicole's Dallas Digs - Living Room

With both our house and cabin under renovation, sometimes it's nice to see some inspirational images from other well-designed homes to find inspiration and to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

When I was in Dallas for my sister Nicole's bridal shower, I soaked in all of the wonderful design elements that she has in her home. From the beautiful rugs and light fixtures, to her intriguing vignettes, her home is both livable and stylish.

Nicole's living room has a graphic cowhide rug, mixed with traditional patterned curtains, and a mod green table and lighting.

I love the bold pops of color in the room, such as this bright red cabinet that leads into the dining room, and the tray sitting on the ottoman.

Nicole purchased this vintage fan in high school for a neighbor's garage sale and displayed it proudly in her bedroom growing up. It still has a prominent place in her home, and never goes out of style.

A cozy hideaway in the corner of the room is perfect for reading and relaxing.

Beautiful butterflies adorn a small wall. (I must admit, I like them so much because we purchased them for her at a NYC flea market.)

If you happened to notice the unique artwork throughout the living room, then you'd love to know that it was all painted by Nicole. Not only is she a great decorator, she's also a very talented artist as well.

Stay tuned tomorrow for a peak into her dining room, which is fit for entertaining on the fly.

2012 Calendar Picks

It's 2012!...and it's time to pick out your calendar for the year. This has been a tradition in my family since I was a little girl. And, I still enjoy picking out a special calendar to hang in my office throughout the year.

Below are some of my top picks from my favorite Etsy artists. All are beautifully designed and are easy on the wallet as well!

1. This mini desk calendar from IdeaChic packs a powerful punch and even comes with its own acrylic stand to display it prominently. Enjoy green trees in June, sunny sunflowers in September, and faux bois in October. (Priced at $20)

2. Here's another mini calendar from METROPINk that includes an array of brightly colored florals and nature scenes. (Priced at $5...you print it at home)

3. Birds the word with this sweet calendar from Enrouge. With the slogan "Art to remind you of love", these romantic and playful birds are oh so precious. (These calendars appear to already be sold out, but keep an eye out for more!)

4. I must have birds on my brain, because I just couldn't get enough of this calendar by Mademoiselle Yo either. It includes delightful images of birds, rabbits, bears, and other playful drawings. (Priced at $15)

5. This dreamy calendar exhibits the lovely photographs of Photographs by KLP. The green pear in March and the wheat fields in June are to die for. (Priced at $15)

6. Another one of my favorite photography calendars is entitled "Le grand voyage de mademoiselle" by MyMonography. But be careful, the french-inspired images may make you want to quit your day job to flutter around Paris. (Priced at $20)

7. Here's another inexpensive printable calendar from Printable Scripture that includes the sweetest scriptures. "Love All, Serve All" and "The Lord is my strength and my song" are included in this 12 month calendar. (Priced at $6)

8. Need a more manly calendar? This menagerie calendar by Colette Mazunik includes all of my favorite animals, with a masculine twist. Plus, I love the idea of framing the images from every month, once you're finished using them. (Priced at $8)

9. Of course, I couldn't resist this simple calendar from April Hovjacky, with a D.C inspired theme. I love the free-hand images of the monuments in our city. (Priced at $8)

10. I must admit that I saved the best for last. This modern and whimsical calendar by Lisa Samartino Design is second-to-none in creativity, and I just can't resist it. I ordered her calendar last year (seen in the second image) that was ultimately featured in numerous design blogs, as well as a major motion picture. (Priced at $10)

A Relaxed Wedding Shower

My sister Nicole is getting married next month, and in October, her best friend Elizabeth and I threw her a wedding shower in Dallas. Nicole is not the frilly-girly type, so we knew that the shower would need to be quirky and funky to fit her personality.

We ended up chosing Eno's in the Bishop Arts District of Dallas as our venue...partially because it's her favorite restaurant, and partially because it has such a hip, vintage feel.

They have a wonderful private room upstairs that has soaring ceilings and warm wood walls. Elizabeth was the master-mind behind the decor.

She crafted the most beautiful balls to hang from the ceiling out of yarn and ribbon.

And also made little versions for the tables.

Her take-home candy favors were a hit!

The relazed wedding shower was so much fun, but I can't wait for the wedding. My sister is so creative...you won't even believe some of the things she has planned and has made for her wedding.

Merry and Bright

Happy Holidays from Hase Haus!

I hope everyone had a wonderful and blessed Christmas! I personally enjoy the gift-giving season so much, because it gives me an excuse to wrap presents. Glorious presents!

My friend Bethany was so sweet to share the book "The Art of Gift Wrapping" by Wanda Wen with me...

...and it inspired me to be even more creative in my gift-wrapping adventures using items that I found around the house...

Peacock feathers leftover from a flower bouquet...

Pine cones I found in my neighbor's yard...

Simple twine and ribbons...

A sparkly Christmas ornament and some scalloped tissue paper...

A leftover tassel from a reupholstery project...

A burlap bag with ribbons and a gold ornament

Mr. H even got in on the action with some creative wrapping:

A JCrew bag that he cut up and attached to the wrapping paper...

Speciality bird wrapping paper with a perfect pink ribbon...

Don't you just love receiving beautifully wrapped presents?! What's your favorite wrapping trick?!
